Greeting from the President

Japan has a long history of acupuncture use; the medical law for the education and regulation of acupuncture was established in the 8th century. In modern times, national licensed acupuncturists and moxibustionists play a role in health maintenance and promotion, as well as the treatment of disease for local residents.

Acupuncture is one modality of traditional East Asian medicine. In the 20th century, western doctors have accepted that acupuncture treatment does work for a wide range of conditions and a variety of patients, and acupuncture has spread rapidly in Western Europe, North America, and is now widely used and accepted all over the world. However, in Japan, acupuncture is not widely used in hospitals or medical offices.

Our corporation was founded in order to foster the dissemination of medical care by acupuncture and moxibustion. As a first step, we have opened this website to provide information regarding how acupuncture is accepted in the Japanese medical system. We show information about the education, regulation, and practice of acupuncture in Japan and developed countries in Europe, North America, and Oceania. These information sources are based on Japanese and English materials published by governments, organizations, and academic journals, etc.

I hope that this site will contribute to the spread of acupuncture and moxibustion medicine.

Fuminori Ando
President of the Japanese association for promoting medical care by acupuncture and moxibustion.
